Threatened building profile:
LE LOUVRE

Address:
80 Collins Street, Melbourne
Significance:
1855 townhouse with long history as exclusive shop; important streetscape remnants.
Images:

Threats:
Le Louvre - appears little alterations planned (was to be facaded, interior and rear wing destroyed) but still has little heritage protection (D graded in 1984, rejected by Heritage Victoria 2010).

Tower plans also changing (September 2010), but still whole streetscape to be dominated by 40+ tower on legs set forward of all other towers.

As of February 2011 the design changed somewhat. Glassy tower front now setback 6 metres from Collins Street and tower lower. Le Louvre retention now includes front portion not just façade, but rear alterations still envisaged.
Permit Authority:
City of Melbourne and Heritage Victoria
Permit Date:
Pending
Reasons for Permit:
What are the chances of reversing the decision?
50/50. Development has progressed to this point despite not meeting major planning guidelines because of support, or lack of opposition, by authorities up to now.
Can this be avoided in future?
Sticking to guidlines and maintaining guidelines.
Attention required:
